I'm A Newbie Running Ooo3 On Mac Osx, And As A Mac/Ms Office User, I Am Accustomed To Storing Templates In A Template Folder, Etc.

If you prefer not to mess with it, you actually do not have to install the template at all: Search [solved] how to create a custom template for labels. I haven't checked, but i assume that such a scan would also occur when selecting file > new > templates and documents or when opening a document having an attached template.
